Damaged connectors on the graphics card
my pc has been experiencing random freezes recently, so i finally had the chance to disassemble it and inspect the components. i removed the gpu to check for errors in the event timer (i think there were some). here’s the image below. i’m assuming the humidity in southern louisiana, plus a broken ac for a few days, along with the hot environment, caused moisture buildup and corrosion over the past week or two. my question is: can i salvage this gpu? is there a way to clean off the corroded parts and get it working again? also, it looks like the corrosion is concentrated in just one area.
Use rubbing alcohol or isopropyl alcohol to sanitize the contacts. Avoid pressing on tiny parts—just wipe the PCI-e connections. A non-oil-based cleaner also works fine. You might also spray it into the PCI-e slot while the PC is off, then let it dry. If your AC is leaking moisture, consider using a dehumidifier in the room housing your PC.
I share the same view as @Applefreak and I also suggest a dehumidifier. It should be an active model—electric ones work best for high humidity levels, unlike passive units which aren't strong enough. They rely on crystals that collect moisture and store it underneath.
