I think you're referring to a cooler height. The NH-D15 measures 160mm without the fans, but this can vary by model. Does your case specify a clearance of 160mm for the cooler? Even then, it really depends on the design. Some cases provide exactly 160mm, others around 159mm. In certain designs, attaching the side panel makes it simple to add a washer for extra clearance. The NH-D15 uses 140mm fans with 120mm bolt patterns. If you choose 120mm fans, they won't reach above the cooler completely. So you'll still maintain the 160mm clearance—just ensure you use a low-profile RAM if you want to utilize a fan on the RAM side. I've done this for my son's case.
