Custom-built system fails to start after various hardware modifications.
Hey All, I just want to preface this post with that I’ve build around 10 or so gaming computers and have done multiple upgrades and breakdowns of my own computer and I’m absolutely stumped right now. So yesterday I received a new motherboard, processor and case for my computer and went ahead and did a full rebuild in the new case with the new components. The first time I went to boot the new build nothing happened. I got no lights, no beeps, absolutely nothing. Figured maybe a power supply issue so I went and grabbed a power supply and swapped out the one in there, attempted to boot and got nothing again. No sounds, no lights, nothing. Very strange I think, maybe a motherboard issue. I order a new one and call it a night. Today while I’m waiting for the new board to come in I figured I’d go ahead and put my old board and processor back into the new case so at least I could game some. This time I hit the power button, I see lights flash once and then absolutely nothing again. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong or messing up. I’ve double check wiring and rewired and replaced wires and everything and I’m getting absolutely nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys!
I’ve confirmed I’ve reviewed the no-boot/post checklist and verified every identified issue has been addressed or resolved.
Old power supply issues can occur if you keep adjusting components. Make sure to perform a full out-of-box test. This ensures any problems are fixed before shipping and allows you to return it for replacement if needed.
This was my initial reaction, but I swapped it out to avoid sounding like PSU.
I’ve been running various diagnostic tests. Initially, I checked the paper clip test and the PSU appears to be working properly. Then I connected just the motherboard power and saw a brief flash of lights followed by nothing else. Switching to another motherboard and processor didn’t fix the problem. I can reproduce the flash at least, but it makes me wonder if both boards might have been damaged.
Yesterday my mainboard was functioning properly, but now it won’t start up at all. I’m really puzzled.
If you connected the wrong pins, you can turn off all power, let it rest for a while, then try again. You may need a GPU if you don’t have an integrated one. Confirm your monitor is set to HDMI and that you’re using the correct channel, such as HDMI 1.
