But if the data isn't coming through the power, and your Wi-Fi signal isn't strong enough at the top, plus I don’t have much room to run cables inside walls...

With extra funds and more time, I’d definitely switch everything into a single router, making it look much more professional.

My Synology RT2600 AC is functioning perfectly, though it seems expensive for its capabilities. Living in a two-story home with just 1300 square feet, the WiFi coverage works well overall. However, since both the modem and router are located on the second floor, I experience strong signals throughout the house.

I spotted several models, but I focused on the Asus AC3100 and Synology RT2600AC mainly due to their flexible interfaces.

Consider swapping its firmware for OpenWRT. The Xiaomi Mi 3G could work as an access point. Though it won’t match a business router, it should beat most consumer routers on the market (even high-end ones) that cap at around 1200Mbps—about 300Mbps on 2.4GHz and 866Mbps on 5GHz N, plus 300Mbps on AC. It’s also a great value, priced near $40 to $60.
