I previously had a solid 3.9 GHz OC running on my 1700X with the Asrock AB350M Pro4 and 16 GB TridentZ F4-3200C14D-16GTZR, XMP turned on. After updating my BIOS, I realized I can't push the clock beyond 5.50 GHz at all. Even increasing the base clock by 50 MHz with default settings and XMP disabled would cause issues. Right now I'm using BIOS version 5.90. Have others experienced similar limits? I'm wondering if I should consider returning my board or seeking a more powerful alternative. Also, if I decide to switch to a different board, what are the best recommendations for overclocking in the mATX size? I'm planning a future upgrade to a 3800X but budget constraints are tight. Edit: I can't downgrade beyond BIOS version 5.80. Updated April 13, 2020 by Bandogora Forgot key version info
The board is a POS. It's best not to ask you to spend more money. Consider upgrading your board.
