I believe this technology is now common among cellular providers. I don’t remember cordless phones using it in the US either. I think they still rely on 900Mhz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8Ghz frequencies. Since Wi-Fi is a worldwide standard, they can only operate on bands that countries agree on, which would make regional customization difficult and compliance challenging.
