I have a setup with an ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F gaming rig, featuring a 2700x CPU, Samsung 970 Evo 500GB drive, 32GB RAM, and Windows 10. I've been using it as a server for Minecraft and other friends' projects. Occasionally, it just restarts without shutting down properly, ending with the lock screen. I ran a memory test using Memtest86 and found 1078 errors so far (about 91% in the third pass). Two 16GB DDR4 3200MHz sticks from Silicon Power were used, which were inexpensive but seem unusual. What should I do?
I don't think it's active yet, but I'll verify once the test finishes.
Considering the advice to turn off XMP, occasionally reinserting the memory chips and cleaning the connections on both the motherboard and memory units can resolve these issues. On an early Ryzen system I experienced random freezes after being checked in as luggage, reseating the CPU fixed them. It’s likely the device had been damaged during transport. When reviewing the images, the same memory locations keep failing. If you prefer not to swap out the memory, you can instruct memtest86 to treat those problematic addresses as boot arguments, letting Windows or Linux ignore them. This isn’t a perfect fix, but it may work for less important setups—it’s essentially a free repair option.
I’m sure I’ll explore all the free choices first before upgrading my RAM, since I don’t have much money right now.
Looks quite poor based on what I’ve seen so far. With only a small amount of RAM testing, 1078 errors stand out as concerning. I plan to check @RussianSalad and @Levent first.
I'm testing with 2933MHz and everything seems fine. I disabled XMP/DOCP because it wasn't detected since it was labeled DOCP. I plan to run it at that speed for a while to restore the game servers. Next, I'll try a higher speed without XMP when fewer players are online.
