Hey, I'm setting up a new PC that won't boot. Everything seems to be in place except for the graphics card. The motherboard, CPU, cooler, power supply, and RAM are all connected correctly. When I tried using an AMD Ryzen 3 3100 to update the BIOS, it worked fine. But with the Ryzen 7 5700X installed, only the motherboard lights up while the GPU stays dark and the fan doesn't spin. This is my first attempt at troubleshooting, so please let me know if I missed anything important. Thanks for your help!
It worked perfectly, launching into the operating system smoothly and I successfully accessed the BIOS.
A friend had upgraded his PC with an MSI B450 board and a Ryzen 3300X. He recently purchased a Ryzen 5600X and needed assistance updating the BIOS because he wasn’t very tech-savvy. After installing the new BIOS while still using the 3300X, the system worked fine and booted into Windows. However, when he powered off the PC and swapped it with the 5600X, it wouldn’t start. He tried various fixes, and unexpectedly, the machine finally booted after a prolonged black screen. At that moment, he was on his phone and left the PC unattended. To his amazement, it began to load.
I switched to BIOS version 2.61 L2.61, the newest listed on asrock's site. After reviewing everything I've done, I haven't found any info about this board having status LEDs. The ones that do seem to activate show a steady rolling rainbow effect, which likely just looks cosmetic.
Clear CMOS and attempt once more; if unsuccessful, proceed with the suggested approach. Memory training may require time, which could explain the black screen mentioned earlier. Avoid leaving the CPU fan spinning continuously—consider trying a different header if needed. Install only one memory DIMM in slot 1 initially, then advance to higher slots (2,3,4) as necessary. If you switch CPUs, memory training might be delayed. Verify whether the installed CPU is genuine or used and confirm it isn't faulty. Reinserting the 3100 without a cooler should still work; if not, suspect bad memory. Also, ensure your BIOS version is up-to-date before posting again. I have a spare B450 board available for testing in GVRD.
Remembered a lot of Zen designs can be quite tricky to recall. My first Zen struggles with recent memory, while my second is more comfortable with it.
