You're experiencing typical idle temperatures for your build, especially with a Ryzen 7 7800X. Those ranges are normal under light load. When you're gaming, temps can rise to around 80°C, which is common but worth monitoring. The fact that idle temps stay in the mid-40s to low 50s suggests good cooling performance. Keep an eye on things during intense sessions and ensure your fans and heatsinks are functioning well.

What temperature are you running? Which case are you using? What cooling solution is inside that case? And what’s the room temperature? With a solid dual tower cooler and around 20°C outside, I’d anticipate idle temps near 40-50°C, game temps in the mid-60s, and peak performance reaching about 80°C during Cinebench.

I'm using an Asus Ryujin iii 360 with a Gungnir 300r Airflow cooler. The stock fan configuration has three intakes and one exhaust; the radiator is set for exhaust as recommended. Current room temperature is around 24°C. During Cinebench tests it reached 79°C, which is typical during gaming. Note: Ambient temps are now 40-45°C when idle but rising less while gaming. The peak I've recorded is 55°C unless playing Cyberpunk. Edited February 16, 2024 by jjkmyth – new info

It makes sense to you. Remember, idle time means no activity on the PC for a short while, but true idle differs from just being inactive. CPU usage matters—if it stays below 1-3%, it’s not idling properly. Your temperatures look normal, so there’s no major concern. Even minor actions like opening a window will cause temporary spikes, which is typical. Avoid fixating on idle temperatures unless the chip isn’t functioning as expected under real load.

Temperatures during testing seem more like gaming or synthetic loads. The 80°C setting on the 7800X3D feels excessive. Were you using PBO or CO during the session?
