I attempted to launch CSGO for the first time after the update, but it's frozen on a black screen. However, I can still hear the sounds when you select options. I don't understand what's happening any better...

I'm assuming you're using an AMD or Intel GPU. They've been facing an issue and they're trying to fix it.
It's important to note that this isn't about cheating—just a problem they're working on.
*Posted to raise awareness, not encouraging any unfair advantage. (There are already enough players using this—I had three in my last competitive match).

No, this update is completely new and users worldwide are reporting issues with the game freezing. Keep an eye on it for a resolution soon.

So I'm just waiting? Also, why is there a lot of video content? Yeah, I thought I could manage without it, but I realized maybe I wasn't ready. The starting logo doesn't show up at all.

The combined GPU should suffice for playing the game, though there seems to be an issue at the moment. The CS:GO developers mentioned they are trying to resolve it. There isn't much more to do except wait, or else I suggest proceeding.
