I've been boosting my older machine's performance. It has an i7 930 with a 4.0 GHz boost, 12 GB RAM, and a GTX 460. Running Crysaline 2 at extreme settings gives around 30 FPS, which is about average for that frame rate. I believe upgrading the graphics card to something like 960 or higher would help. Does this feel reasonable given your current stats?

The CPU's speed has minimal impact on freezing, while the GPU is the main issue

It appears the information you shared is from a previous guide on Crysis 2 benchmarks. The recommendation to avoid the GTX 960 seems to be consistent with earlier advice.

i thought purchasing a 4690k would be the top choice for gaming ever. it resolves all issues and prevents bottlenecks when others are struggling. sure, your gpu might be the limiting factor—just increase its settings to high, verify msi afterburner is pinned at 99%, and observe the performance fluctuations. possibly other factors like ram or hdd are involved, but i've noticed it before.

Thanks! It sounds like your GTX 460 is starting to feel outdated. Switching to the 970 should make things smoother.
