Cryorig r1 ultimate on 8700k
Would the cryorig r1 ultimate provide adequate cooling at 8700k, and would it be possible to slightly increase the processor speed with this cooler?
Even a 212-evo provides sufficient cooling for stock speeds, mainly because it maximizes headroom for overclocking. Big air coolers tend to outperform 240mm or standard AIO models. The video explains this clearly. An AIR cooler also offers quieter operation with reduced noise levels. For instance, comparing R1 2fans to a Freezer 240 with 4 fans plus a pump. Air coolers generally last longer and are more reliable, though they may not match the aesthetic appeal of fancy RGB AIO coolers.
It is possible, but spending that much would mean opting for the Arctic Liquid Freezer 240. It offers superior cooling compared to the R1 and lets you fully see your RGB TridentZ, whereas the R1 would likely block or at least hinder visibility.
Even a 212-evo model can sufficiently cool your CPU at stock speeds, mainly by increasing the headroom you desire. 240mm or most AIO coolers tend to underperform compared to big air coolers. Here is the video that clarifies this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hr0qLLv3dKc
Air coolers also operate much quieter with reduced noise levels. For instance, R1 2fans versus Freezer 240 4fans plus pump.
Air coolers generally last longer and are more reliable, never failing. The only drawback of air coolers is their size, which may not fit your system, and they often lack the aesthetic appeal of fancy AIO RGB coolers.
