Crush my X99 (its intelligence has gone haywire)
It’s been a while since my last visit. Here’s what I found after switching from the X99—lots of changes in hardware choices. Intel seems to have dropped prices a lot, especially for performance-focused parts, but you still need to invest more in memory with solid voltages. AMD has stepped up their game, offering better deals and more options. After ten years, I’m considering the Ryzen 7 and am halfway through setting up my system. In the UK, there are some great offers from AMD now. I want to share a few points if anyone has better info:
- Upgrade to faster RAM—overclocking the CPU isn’t necessary unless you’re really serious.
- Water cooling works well with Ryzen 7 but might be too much for your current setup.
- Intel chips are still pricey, but they usually come with good deals on both chips and boards.
- Watch out for stability issues in some programs—VMware and a few games have reported problems.
- Overall, Ryzen 7 offers solid value compared to Intel in many cases.
