In real life, you enjoy strategy games nonstop. Whether turn-based or real-time, they all have their appeal. You love colonization, civilization-building, mastering Orion, Alpha Centauri—anything you can name. But you haven’t played a grand strategy game before. Many praise Paradox for their work, but they often hide behind screenshots. I just got a free, limited-time version and started playing, but it’s confusing. The choices are overwhelming.
If you want a simple guide for a chimpanzee: look for short tutorials or beginner guides online. Check out sites like YouTube or Paradox’s own resources—they often have easy steps. Just don’t expect instant clarity; strategy games need patience and practice.

Crusader Kings 2 is merely a game you need to dive into and solve through experimentation. The recent video series helped me start playing, though it feels a bit outdated now. With new expansions released, updates have adjusted small aspects so some parts no longer match the old footage. Still, it's a good beginning. I enjoy Crusader Kings 2, but if you prefer a more accessible grand strategy title for beginners, Europa Universalis 4 is often recommended.
CK2 presents a challenging learning path but offers great satisfaction. I've invested several hundred hours mastering it. For a new attempt, consider turning off much of the DLC—particularly the Viking expansion—since Vikings can be tough early on in regions like northern Europe, Britain, or Ireland. Secondly, begin in Ireland for your first playthrough because it's not under a unified kingdom, so you won't face overwhelming enemies. You can gradually develop duchies and eventually the full kingdom of Ireland. Once that's done, proceed with caution.
After confirming the kingdom, you'll grasp the game's rules more clearly by experiencing several rulers. This means you begin with primogeniture inheritance, which keeps things organized. If you need guidance or started elsewhere, just let me know for advice or tips. I understand how challenging this can be.
