Crosshair Hero VIII model with bottom m.2 port for non-Wi-Fi use
My friends, the bottom port on this MoBo is indeed PCI-E 4.0. I couldn't locate any details in the manual, or I might have missed something.
Referring to the official page, it confirms the details about the ROG Crosshair VIII Hero model.
The second position consistently runs on PCIe 4.0 because it leverages the chipset's lanes rather than the CPU's. However, with the third generation Ryzen chips, PCIe 4.0 becomes standard, ensuring performance across most devices.
Yeah, it should work. I've spent a whole day trying to take out my graphics card just to fit an NVMe drive in the first slot. It’s frustrating!
In theory it could work, but practically it’s not likely you’d even notice if it ran in PCIe 3.0 instead of 4.0 or at SATA speeds. You probably won’t see any difference for your needs. I still believe it’s best to install it in the first slot, since you’ve been trying to remove the graphics card for nearly two years. It’s time you learned how to do it properly, and stop searching for reasons to avoid the basics of removing a graphics card.
Graphics card is placed in the slot. I’ll share photos later this afternoon. No surprise I can’t take it out. Performance seems the same whether using PCI-E 4.0 on the CPU or the chipset? Definitely no variation. From watching videos, I’ve found it best to install in the first (top) slot.
