It didn't function properly... the repairs and the recent tweak to virtual memory extended my session by a couple of minutes, allowing me to play the campaign for 2-3 more minutes than expected. Probably the next step will be a fresh installation from Windows.

You have a fresh OS (8.1) with Chrome Origin and Mo/bo drivers installed. The GPU drivers are missing for OS 8.1. Before installing BF4, consider updating your OS or checking if the drivers are available for your specific GPU model. Also, ensure your backup of BF4 and DLC on HDD is safe.

For The Love of God check the newest drivers for your GPU (avoid beta versions). You might also want to disable the Windows firewall, as I experienced similar freezing problems. Turning it off each time I played BF4 helped me. Hope this assists!
