Crisis:3 experienced unexpected FPS fluctuations.
Hello everyone. I'm facing issues while running Crysis 3 on my main rig. I'm using the highest settings without any additional software, at 1080p resolution. It usually drops to around 60-70 frames per second occasionally, sometimes reaching the high 50s, but there are moments when it falls to exactly 32 fps and then jumps back up to 70. This seems to happen mostly when focusing on the same area, often behind a wall. I've tested various drivers and even disabled VSync, including forcing it off in NVIDIA settings. Anyone else encounter similar problems? My system specs are: Gigabyte GA-990FX gaming motherboard (same issue with ASUS M5A97 R2), AMD FX 8350 OC @4.4GHz @1.42GHz (same problem even without overclocking), 8GB dual channel DDR3 1866MHz (same issue with Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz), 750W power supply, AMD R3 SSD 240GB, and an ASUS Strix GTX970 with 3.5GB RAM. Temperatures recorded over an hour of OCCT monitoring show the CPU reaching a maximum of 54°C (with Corsair H100 AIO), while the GPU stays under 70°C after stress testing. All other games run smoothly except Black Ops 3, which has some VRAM leakage concerns. Thanks for any assistance and time you took to read this.
Use afterburner to track information while running Crysis. It might show one core reaching full capacity while others remain underutilized.
If your processor is experiencing spikes or is heavily utilized, the best solution is an upgrade. You might attempt to overclock it, though this could have limited results.
The only active part is core 8 at 87%. I've noticed many users on YouTube achieving the same setup successfully.
But this only covers a sample of what was tested, not the ongoing process. Understanding their testing method lets you verify outcomes on your own.
I watched some YouTube videos showing it works fine with the same hardware. The unusual part is it runs smoothly even at the lowest configurations. For instance, I can play GTA 5 at full settings without any issues at 58 to 75 frames per second consistently. The slowest performance I've noticed is around 57 FPS on a busy street with lots of explosions. In Battlefield 1, it runs at ultra settings at 80 FPS, with a minimum of 65 FPS (without anti-aliasing), which makes it unlikely that CPU limitations are the cause even at the lowest settings.
