I was thinking about a 3900x or 3950x setup since they’re quick and you need a machine that can last. Likely I’ll aim for 32–64GB, starting there and upgrading later.

consider switching to an NVMe M.2 drive—it's roughly the same price and can be quicker in certain applications.
