Hey everyone,
I’m seeking some advice on setting up a new PC.
Quick note: I’m based in Germany and am open to investing a fair amount. I’m exploring options for custom builds—places like iBuypower come to mind—but I’m not confident in assembling one myself. I’m considering alternatives such as Crosair 5000D Airflow, which seems reasonable, and some 120mm fans if needed.
For the CPU, I’m leaning toward an I9-14900KF; I don’t have much experience with Ryzen chips, so I’d appreciate any tips on temperature, power consumption, or other factors.
Regarding cooling, I’ve seen the Corsair Hydro H150i PRO 360mm radiator, but I’m not sure if liquid cooling is necessary. My old PC is around 7-8 years old and isn’t as advanced as modern systems.
RAM: likely a 32GB DDR5-5600MHz setup—probably sufficient for gaming.
GPU: Nvidia 4090.
Motherboard: The MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk (if Intel is the path) seems like a strong contender.
Power supply: I think an 850W unit would be adequate.
Storage: Two 2TB M.2 SSDs with PCIe NVMe drives (Samsung 990 PRO, 7450MB/s and 6900MB/s).
I’m unsure if anything else is required or if I’ve missed something.

You're focusing on top-tier parts, so little extra isn't needed there.
For a 4090, I'd suggest opting for a 1000W power supply.
If you're mainly playing games like the 14900K, it doesn't really add much value. The 7800X3D seems better for optimal performance in many titles, or the i7-14700k offers good value with only a slight loss in efficiency cores, still providing solid average results across games.

Hey there,
Just to add more to what I mentioned to @Eximo, the 14900k and even the 14700k tend to overheat. Your cooler should handle them, but keep in mind that at full load the CPU can reach up to 100°C, making the fan noise noticeable. Also, as suggested, the Ryzen 7800x3d is currently the top choice for gaming. It runs a bit cooler than Intel, though it still stays around 80°C under load. If you decide to go with Ryzen, adding 6000mhz RAM would be a smart move—it's ideal for 7xxx series processors.

Do you have a reliable local PC shop that can assemble a PC for you?
If you encounter any issues, you wouldn't want to have to send a pre-built unit back to the original builder.
Your selection seems sensible.
My considerations:
A 5000 d case would be suitable. I’d opt for two 140mm front intake fans.
Bigger fans circulate more air quietly.
I favor the 14900K model; the 'K' version is cheaper, but having integrated graphics is essential when testing discrete GPU problems.
The 14900K is built to handle temperatures up to 100°C.
If it senses a rise, it will reduce speed slightly.
One might think aggressive liquid cooling is necessary, but it’s not always required.
Here’s an insightful article:

A high-quality air cooler such as the Noctua NH-D15 would perform excellently.
AIO coolers are sealed units; they don’t last indefinitely.
Over time, the mechanical pump may fail or become clogged.
Air can seep through the tubes, forcing replacement after about five years.
Intel differs from Ryzen in that it doesn’t rely on fast RAM for performance.
The 5600 MHz is adequate.
I’d expect the MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk to work well.
The only drawback of a more powerful PSU than needed is cost.
The PSU will only draw the power it requires, not excessively.
A 950W unit would be ideal.
A stronger PSU than necessary can overheat in the middle of its capacity range.
Choose a quality PSU. A warranty lasting 10-12 years indicates reliability.
Seasonic and Corsair RM are reputable options.
I’ve noticed fake products often appear on Amazon.
You’ll find recommendations for Ryzen X3D units.
Gaming benchmarks look strong.
Here’s a comparison:
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D vs. Intel Core i9-14900K
It’s time to reassess the gaming performance of the Core i9-14900K and Ryzen 7 7800X3D, evaluating head-to-head AMD and Intel top processors...
www.techspot.com
As you play at higher resolutions, the graphics card becomes the main bottleneck.
Unfortunately, the X3d’s gaming speed sacrifices everyday tasks.
The base 7800X model is better suited for other activities.
Yes, there’s a learning curve between AMD and Intel.
Notably, RAM compatibility with Ryzen is often a recurring problem when reading these forums.

Thank you for your responses.
@geofelt
It's been a year since I moved to Germany, so I don't have a local PC shop nearby to rely on for assembly anymore. Back then, there used to be one where I lived, but it's too far now.
I have several questions:
Has the 7800X3D become that outdated over time? And as before, does it significantly lose performance in everyday tasks?
For cooling purposes, I'd prefer air cooling since I'm not very familiar with AIOs, but I like things running cooler, so I might consider them if necessary.
Are there differences between the base 4090 specs compared to brands like MSI or ASUS?
I can spend up to around 4,500–5,000 euros just because I value quality and longevity, so I wouldn't want to need to upgrade or change this soon.

7800X3D is quite new. Are you considering the 5800X3D instead?
7800X3D runs smoothly with a powerful air cooler sufficient to maintain stability. High-end Intel chips favor water cooling, though it's not mandatory.
It operates at a lower clock speed compared to non-X3D models, but remains one of the latest AMD architectures and stays quite fast. The benefit here is the new socket design, which means future CPU upgrades are possible. The current Intel socket is nearing the end of its life, with a new one expected soon.
Most 4090 variants perform similarly in terms of performance. Choose the model you prefer in appearance. Avoid Gigabyte if you can, as they've had issues with PCB damage under heavy loads. Generally, these units come with large coolers that are both quiet and efficient. The top-tier cards offer some overclocking potential, but it's not a significant advantage. Spending an extra 100W or more for just a few percentage gains isn't practical, especially since these components already deliver 450-500W of power.

Air coolers are available on caseking.de with the Deepcool AK620 zero dark variant. You would need to adjust the front fans, but the site will handle that for you. For GPU performance details, including temperatures and cooler efficiency, see the following link: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/msi-g...-x/37.html MSI GeForce RTX 4090 Suprim X Review. This model is noted for being the quietest custom RTX 4090 we tested, operating at just 28.6 dBA during full load with 4K at 60 FPS and ray tracing active, while maintaining excellent temperatures.
