I am evaluating the components for constructing a new gaming PC. Currently, I possess an EVGA 3050 video card with 8GB DDR6 RAM. I am considering purchasing:
-Cooler Master N400 case (NSE-400-KKN2)
-Corsair RM850e (2023) 850 watts PSU
-2 Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM 32GB 600MHz CL36 (CP2K16G60C36U5B Black) for a combined 64 GB RAM
-4 Noctua NF-A12x25 PWM chromax black swap Premium Quite fans 4 pin 120mm
-Noctua NH-D15 chromax back Dual Tower CPU Cooler 140mm
-AMD Ryzen 9 9900x 12 core 24 thread unlocked CPU
-1 Samsung 990 Pro SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280
-GIGABYTE X870 Gaming X WIFI7 AMD AM5 LGA 1718 Motherboard, ATX, DDR5, 4 M.2 Slots, PCIE 5.0, USB4, 2.5GbE LAN, and Ez-latch
An alternative motherboard is the GIGABYTE X870 Gaming X WIFI6 version with most features of the WIFI7 model.
This setup seems reasonable. Would you like suggestions for additional cables to consider buying?
Is this a set of RAM modules or a combination of different types?
The identical type of RAM is available in two sets. Each set contains two 16GB modules, making a single set 32GB in total. Purchasing two sets provides 64GB of memory.
I attempted to purchase one pack with two sticks of 32 each. I'm uncertain if having a total of 64 offers any benefit for gaming. Some might suggest choosing an X3D CPU if you're dedicated to gaming.
Choose one pack. Combining items won't always succeed. For gaming, you don't require 64GB of RAM either—32 is sufficient. The CPU is more than adequate compared to the GPU.
The chosen RAM is not a mix-and-match option; it shares the same part number category and comes from Crucial. I understood that mixing RAMs can cause issues, so I chose one type and a specific supplier or manufacturer. Regarding the CPU, I picked something affordable yet capable. The AMD model already has a high price because of its built-in GPU, serving as a backup in case the Nvidia 3050 GPU ever fails. As for stability after assembly, I wondered whether the selected components would still function properly once installed.
Two distinct kits are meant to be combined, they’re only assured to function together as a complete unit. The same part numbers don’t guarantee compatibility. They could work or they might not.
For gaming, the 3D chips perform better and you’ll see improved results by reducing RAM and CPU usage while using a more capable GPU.
This setup is not ideal—it wastes resources and the dual-RAM configuration isn’t reliable. Stick with a 2x16GB solution until you need to switch platforms.
This configuration is costing a lot of money. Four sticks of RAM aren't ideal at all right now. Consider a 2x32GB package if you need 64GB. 32GB should suffice for a gaming rig. The speed should be DDR5 6000 CL30, but the case is outdated. You can find better options for similar prices. Having 12 cores isn't required unless you plan to stream. Your 3050 will likely become a bottleneck. You have enough budget to build a solid system and still allocate funds for a much superior GPU later. I’d prefer a setup more like this, using the 3050 only briefly to purchase a better RTX 5070 or RX 9070 when they launch, saving money plus what remains of your remaining budget.
