I’m not very experienced with this kind of project, but I assembled my own PC about two years ago. While I did a lot of research then, the tech world seems to change really fast, and I’m not up to speed on today’s market trends.

Right now, I want to assist a friend who wants to build a gaming PC. I’d like some advice to check if I’m missing anything or if there are improvements to make. His budget is $2500 USD (excluding the monitor), and he’s aiming for a top-tier setup—around $2500 for a 10-level build, or mid-range around $2500 for a 5-level build. A target range of 7.5 to 8 would seem ideal.

Here’s what I’m considering so far:
CPU: Ryzen 9 5900X – this model was originally one tier lower, but with the 7000 series it’s still worth thinking about. Would you recommend something from the 7000 line instead?
VIDEO CARD: Gigabyte Gaming OC 4070 TI – is this a solid choice? Going into 4080 or higher feels like a big jump in cost. Any opinions would be appreciated.
MOBO: ASUS AMD AM4 ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Hero – does this fit the budget for his build?
RAM: 32 GB Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 3600 DDR4 – should this be sufficient? I’m not sure if 3600 DDR4 is ideal.

These are the key components I need guidance on. I’m uncertain if all of them are suitable or if certain specs should be upgraded. The rest of the parts I can adjust, so any suggestions or feedback on these would be really helpful!

The desired resolution, number of displays, and expectations for in-game quality settings are still being clarified. The preferred types of games they tend to play are mostly focused on. A Windows license seems necessary as well.

He'd prefer to run on high-max configurations. Right now he mainly plays shooters like Apex Legends. Yes, Windows is okay—it doesn't really change much. For a 7000 series, a 7800X3D with a 4070 TI seems suitable. I've been considering this option too, but it'll be a bit pricier. He's also mindful of staying within budget and not exceeding it.

He will be using a specific resolution monitor, and there are no current plans or intentions to upgrade to a higher resolution display in the near term.

He's going to buy a new monitor. I assume it'll be a gaming monitor probably 27-28" 240hz. Once he gets this, no expectation to upgrade to a higher reso monitor in the near future.

But what resolution should I choose?
1080p, 1440p, or 4k? It really matters since a higher resolution demands a more powerful graphics card to keep the frame rate stable at a certain quality level.
A card that works just fine for 144fps in 1080p won’t be enough for 4k, and probably not even for 1440p.

Sorry, I'm not sure. The ideal resolution depends on your specific needs, but 1440p is often a good choice for gaming.

Observe the change since at 1440p you usually face roughly half the performance requirements of a 4k setup.
Will he require a different case, CPU cooler, or similar upgrades?
Does he already possess a case model in mind that fits his preferences? Are there particular attributes he seeks like tempered glass side panels, specific motherboard colors, graphics cards, etc.? Are there any additional needs beyond having suitable hardware?

He needs all the necessary components for a full build on the PC. He isn’t concerned about RGB or matching a color scheme. Likely considering a Lian Li Lancool 215 style case. Doesn’t need any extra special features. We aim to skip a liquid cooler and opt for something like a Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 250W for cooling. A 1000W power supply is also planned.

The 140mm rear exhaust fan from the included case is swapped for the 140mm ARGB fan positioned below.
