Hello everyone,
I’m thinking about purchasing a new gaming PC and would value your advice on the best approach. I’m located in Pakistan, with a budget of approximately $1000 USD (covering my PC sale earnings plus savings). My preferred games include Resident Evil 4 Remake and upcoming heavy titles such as GTA 6. My GTX 1060 has failed, so I can only play Dota 2 with Intel UHD 630 graphics.
Here are my current details:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8400
- Motherboard: MSI H310 Pro-VDH Plus
- RAM: Corsair Value Select 8GB DDR4 2133 MHz CL-15
- GPU: Zotac GTX 1060 6GB (outdated)
- Storage: 500GB WD HDD + 120GB Kingston SUV400 SSD
- PSU: Corsair 650W
- Monitor: LG Flatron E2411 24"
- Case: Thermaltake V4
- Peripherals: Mouse – EC1-B CSGO, Keyboard – Standard, Speakers – Logitech Z313 w/ subwoofer
I’m seeking recommendations on whether to upgrade gradually or build anew. I’d like advice on the most sensible CPU/GPU combination for around $1000 today. Are there any parts from my current setup that should be retained?

What is the model and age of the unit? The storage drives are not worth salvaging. The AMD path seems the best option. What if I purchase a Ryzen 7500F with the cheapest motherboard, 16GB RAM at 6000 MHz, and how much would that improvement be compared to my existing setup?

I would also, and it could be feasible with the 7500f, by fitting one in while staying within the PCPP options, keeping the $1k limit. I wouldn't alter the case if it would prevent the rest of the system from functioning properly. There are more problematic scenarios regarding airflow.
I don't think is worth it to go for anything lower than AM5, just my opinion. That first site is decent, but the rest, not so much.
Regularly i say go for all new, but in this case maybe first GPU, CPU, mobo, RAM, and then "go from there". The motherboard is the cheapest B chipset i can find. If there is need/money, then go higher. But i don't know how things are gonna go, so this is for start.

Ryzen 7500F or Ryzen 7600X
Cheapest compatible cooler I can find
Motherboard & RAM:
B-series motherboard (budget option)
16GB DDR5 6000MHz RAM (with the option to add another 16GB later)
Question: Is
32GB necessary
for Ryzen 7 series + new AAA games, or will 16GB be fine for now?
Also, which RAM brands are the most reliable? I’ve heard rumors of some cheaper “China RAM” being faulty.
Case & Airflow:
Current Thermaltake V4 case has front + rear fans, airflow seems okay
I’m open to swapping it for a cheaper case if necessary — any recommendations for
budget-friendly cases with good airflow?
Storage:
Keeping my current drives (120GB SSD for Windows + 500GB HDD for installs/files)
Planning to add either a 500GB or 1TB SSD depending on what’s left in the budget
For storage: would it be better to go for an
NVMe SSD vs. a SATA SSD
?
For Windows and games, is it smarter to have
one larger SSD
or
two separate SSDs
(OS on one, games on the other)?

Used RTX 3080 for ~100,000 PKR (~$356)

CPU isn't the main factor, it's about how much RAM you have. Games are demanding more and using more RAM. My systems can handle up to 16GB, and I only play WoW. My PSU is outdated and should be replaced. I recommend at least 750W, though 850W models are often available. Prices vary by region and availability. NVME is usually similar to SATA, so I'd stick with NVME. I like having two separate drives, using one for the OS and another for games. My worry about a used RTX 3080 is it might have been used for mining. I'd pick a 9600X over a 5060. It's not recommended to use 8GB RAM in 2025.
