at first trying to set up the USB drive showed a need for extra space on the C drive. Now it reports having 9 GB available, yet it keeps asking for more. Since your USB is 32 GB, it seems the issue isn’t about size but something else.

The C drive relates to your computer’s storage space, not the USB needing extra room during installation since it will remove some files afterward. To install Windows smoothly, you must free up around 25-30GB from your partition beforehand, ensuring nothing is lost during setup.

I'm struggling to create more space, but can I switch to a different drive?

You may choose any drive meeting the size requirements. If not, Windows 11 won’t work. The install will prompt you about the partition to select. It wasn’t displayed for you?

It seems you're questioning whether those drives are visible or outdated. Could you share the complete details of your device? Including storage information would be helpful.

If the Media Creation Tool fails due to a full C:\ drive, free up space by running Disk Cleanup and removing outdated System Restore files. Remove unused applications or games. Transfer data to an external bulk storage drive. Clear unnecessary files.

Just create some room. Avoid putting Windows on an HDD—use an SSD instead.
