Hi - welcome! I'm a coder/programmer looking to assemble a PC with Ryzen 9 3900X for occasional gaming and heavy programming. My budget is around USD 1300. I'm considering a CPU that offers long-term value, flexibility with virtual machines, and at least 128GB RAM for demanding tasks. Any recommendations?

This setup would likely involve some compromises. I'm not very familiar with coding, but a build around 1300 dollars usually means cutting a few features. A 3600 or 3700x configuration should work well and last a long time. If you're planning to assemble it later this year, you might want to consider Zen 3 and see what advantages it offers—either get a Zen 3 chip or a lower-cost Zen 2 chip, which all support up to 128 gigabytes of RAM.

What language are you working with? Certain tools like Unity are designed for one-threaded execution, so you might prefer an Intel-based solution.

I can skip parts of gaming since it's not essential for me.

It's similar to video editing where you need to transform raw footage into a finished product, converting it back into a different format while using just your CPU and RAM—no external tools required.
