Create a clone of your PC on a laptop device.
Good morning everyone, I'm working on a Windows 11 Pro PC with a Ryzen system. My job requires me to clone an SSD from my current machine to a laptop running Windows 11 Home. The target laptop is an Asus Vivobook S15 i5-12500H. I'm concerned about potential problems and want to know if copying just the user data and files would be safe instead of the entire drive. Also, are there any differences between cloning from a Pro to a Home version?
Cloning an operating system isn't possible across different hardware setups, particularly between a PC and a laptop. Even modifying a motherboard on the same machine without changing the OS leads to problems. Each device has unique drivers, so attempts like swapping a PC SSD for a laptop or vice versa result in immediate crashes at startup.
Checked availability of insights on Laplink PC Mover. Seeking advice from others who’ve used it. No need for manual transfers or reinstalls.
It varies a bit with each attempt. It generally functions but occasional problems may arise. I rely on an SSD paired with Windows for testing purposes, connecting it to various systems. Most setups succeed. Clonezilla is my preferred cloning solution. For regular use, it’s best to perform a fresh installation and transfer only your user data and files. You can connect the previous SSD to the new machine and move the contents during setup.
