Create a bootable USB drive from a USB partition.
I bought Windows 8.1 Pro Student from the Microsoft store. I can install it on a bootable USB drive. Can I divide that USB so part of it holds the OS and the rest is for saving files? I’m just confirming this before deciding to buy a disc instead, which would cost £10 more. The USB will act as a temporary installation medium, not the final operating system itself.
You can simply prepare the USB for booting and format it first, which will combine all data into a single partition before use.
Ensure the flash drive is ready to boot, then create a folder on it and store your files. This process won't interfere with the Windows setup, as it only uses necessary files. Other data can safely stay on standard bootable USB drives without issues.
Hey there!
That partition with the OS should be readable, not unreadable.
Cheers!
or appears as unreadable when trying to install it on a PC, especially if an operating system is already running
Make sure the USB is bootable first using tools like the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. Even if it doesn’t mention Win 7, it works with any version. As long as all the necessary Windows files are on the USB, the installation will proceed without needing anything else.
