CPU with damaged contact pad.
You now have a CPU that’s been damaged during a repair attempt. The technician, an experienced engineer, predicted it would fail soon due to overheating, even if it worked in a rig. You’re looking into its future value and possible resale options.
A cpu doesn't use each of its pins in each configuration. I think there is a chance. I'd try it. Edited November 18, 2023 by leclod
Really depends which pin, if it's a blank pin (of which there are a few) you may be totally fine forever*, if it's a ground pin you may also be fine, but if it's a power or RAM channel, or sense pin you will likely be SOL. https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/packages/socket_am4
I purchased a 10,000$ Intel Xeon Platinum with a scratch that caused an A1 memory channel issue. It was bought on eBay for $100. I used it as a decorative paperweight. With a spacer (a disposable print part), it functions as a useful Hold W device—TLDR: you're in good shape.
