I own a Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X with an i5 10600K, paired with an RTX 5070Ti and a 2K Ultra Wide monitor.
My aim is to achieve over 60 FPS in games like Battlefield 6 with good graphics.
I experience some lag even at low settings with my current setup.
I’m wondering if it’s better to purchase a used i9 10900KF or save up for a future upgrade in a different socket?

do you have ddr4 memory installed? if yes, pairing a suitable combo of a new motherboard and processor would be ideal.

I have an Gigabyte Z490 Gaming X with i5 10600K
Please list the specs to your current build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.
I have some lag even in low graphics with my current build.
What have you done in order to try and alleviate this, before creating this thread? It's so we've identified what you've done and what didn't work.
My question is should I get a used i9 10900KF or should I keep my money for future upgrade in a different socket?
You could look at the 11th Gen altogether and retain the rest of your stuff., considering your motherboard;
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/Z49...G-X-rev-10
is DDR4, investing in a new platform will mean you have to look at new ram as well, which is probably going to be a deep cut into your wallet.
Where are you located? What is your budget for your upgrade path? Preferred site for purchase?

The processor needs to reach 60 performance. It would be wise to consider a different system, especially since RAM costs have nearly doubled recently.

Are you running your current CPU at maximum capacity during the games where you need higher FPS? Then upgrading to an 11900k would likely make a difference—especially if your motherboard supports it. If your CPU isn’t already operating at full speed in these titles, the change may not significantly improve performance. While a newer system offers advantages, don’t expect instant miracles just because you’re moving to a more modern platform.

If you opted for a newer platform, considering your RAM speed and capacity, a DDR4 board for the LGA 1700 socket would work well and you could use a 12th generation processor. It wouldn’t be advisable to go with the 13th generation, though you might manage with the 14th if you obtain a new CPU and apply any necessary BIOS updates promptly.

I adjusted various settings on my bios, including the XMP profile, turned on all CPU turbo boosts, disabled certain Windows 11 features, and now I’m hitting 60FPS smoothly. Thanks to everyone for your help. I’ll stick with my current build until RAM prices settle. AI really messed up the experience.
