so i assembled a computer a few months back and during gaming my cpu temperatures stayed around 20 idle and 30-40 degrees Celsius. my friends' systems, on the other hand, overheated quickly. i replaced mine with a new build (ryzen 5 1600x and an asus b350 f motherboard). everything started working well, but when i checked core temp to verify the water cooler's performance—after applying too much thermal paste on another machine there wasn't a proper connection—I noticed the cpu would spike up to about 20 degrees, then drop back down. it would jump again after a few seconds, which is a bit unusual but not extreme. i also tested under stress with prime95 and the temps stayed below 35 degrees for short periods, just to confirm they were safe.

What the cat said:
CPU temperatures rise rapidly. If it's below 67°C, everything seems okay. But if it gets hot while playing, that could still be a problem.
Temperatures will spike often because the CPU heats up and cools down quickly with different apps. Staying within a comfortable range during games means you're in good shape and don't have to worry.

CPU temps increase rapidly. If you're under 67°C, I'd say everything is normal.
