Hi everyone, I'm working with an old i5 4690k and trying out some overclocking. Right now I'm at 4.2 GHz with 1.3 volts, using Prime95 for testing. I notice the core clock drops every few minutes, briefly dropping to 800 MHz. It seems my setup isn't stable at this setting. I see others online getting around 4.2 GHz with lower voltages, so I'm not sure what's going on. My temps stayed under 88°C during the test, so it doesn't look like thermal throttling. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Check if the CPU is overheating and consider improving airflow or reducing workload.

No, I haven't made any recent changes to the thermal compound.

You've noticed the results don't reflect in Cinebench R15, but it ran quickly—perhaps the performance was sufficient for the test.

Are you certain about the temperatures? In Prime Small FFT, my 4690k at 4.3/1.22v was running between 96-97°C with a large thermaltake tower cooler. It seems the paste might have aged. I replaced it with a cryorig H7, which fits better in my new case and now it's around the mid-80s. It sounds like thermal throttling, and I’m curious about your 80°C readings considering you’re running at 1.3v, which is quite high.

This morning I conducted additional tests and successfully reached 4.5GHz at 1.3v. My CPU remained stable during Cinebench R15, and I’m currently performing a stability check in Aida64 where temperatures stay below 80°C. At full load, I’m consistently at 100% with no throttling. Does this align with your expectations?
