I built my first PC and I'm really worried about making mistakes. I assembled everything until the cooler was too small (I ordered it from AliExpress) and tried forcing the CPU into it, but it didn't work. Then I decided to skip the cooler and see if it would boot. I shorted it but couldn't get it to start, so I put it in the case and connected the cables. It turned on and showed a DRAM flash followed by a CPU light. Later, I removed it from the case and found a screw and standoff with the motherboard stuck inside. I tried removing it and shorted it, but the PC still lit up with a light on the CPU. Please help me out! Also, just to clarify, my motherboard is an MSI A520M A-PRO with an R5 3600 CPU.
Are all of the parts new? If so there isn't much chance that there is anything defective. However, I once did a build and one of the power supply data power cables was bad and that was causing the whole system not to boot. So check up on that. I wouldn't recommend booting without a cooler. I know you're excited about the computer and everything but if it does boot, it'll likely overheat and cut off anyway. I would check the CPU. Take it out and see if any pins are damaged and if there is any damage to the motherboard socket solder. If no luck after you check all of that, I would try the ram in different slots and both by them selves. Good luck soldier. Ill help if I can.

It’s unclear how to test the power cables since you don’t have an SSD or hard drive, though the case fans are turning on. The GPU fans aren’t spinning even without any light, which seems normal. I’ve inspected the CPU—no bent pins or solder issues—and checked the RAM slots, but nothing found. You mentioned taking pictures; those could be useful for reference.
Did you connect the 4-pin CPU power cable to the motherboard? It looks like you might have removed it, but I’m guessing you did. If you didn’t try that, maybe the problem lies elsewhere. A failing SSD could also prevent booting—try removing it and see if the system starts up without it.
