CPU Quest!
CPU Quest!
I'm aiming to upgrade my rig this year. Choosing the best CPU has been challenging. I'm okay with using an older socket like 1151. My current machine runs on an i7-4710MQ. I've attached a screenshot showing its performance at around 75% load. The main concern is finding a processor that's not too outdated—neither Intel nor AMD—but offers good value for money, something you can find on eBay. You'll need it to handle 1080p games smoothly, ideally with 200 fps in most titles. I'm targeting 144-165Hz, and possibly a 240Hz monitor if the prices work out.
For Windows 11, the processor should be up-to-date and modern.
How advanced are we discussing today? The top performance CPU under $100 for the LGA 1200 socket is the 10100F.
The system needs a powerful processor; compatible options include recent Intel Core models and AMD Ryzen 2000-series chips released in late 2017 to early 2018. Earlier hardware won’t meet the standards. This differs significantly from Windows 10, which aimed for broad compatibility with older versions like Windows 7 or 8.
Are you asking if the top-tier titles actually reach that challenging level? With an RTX 3090 and a budget around 200fps, it should handle demanding games well. If you're okay with that price range, I can help narrow down what you're looking for before suggesting anything else.
Considering the differences between 1600 AF and 3600 performance, I enjoyed the 3600 version but wondered how a 1600 AF would feel.
12nm zen+ chip at 4.1 to 4.2ghz with ~1.40v power. Estimated cost for a 2700X would be around that price.
