Hey there, I’m looking for some guidance. My friend recently assembled his first PC and it functioned flawlessly for a week, but then he encountered a CPU problem. Sometimes the machine wouldn’t respond at all, while RGB lights and fans stayed active, plus a red error light appeared. He had to reset the case using the button and then repeatedly power it back on until it worked. Once it did, everything ran smoothly—no more issues. After removing the CMOS battery as recommended online, the PC operated perfectly for three days before it stopped working again. MOTHERBOARD: Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming CPU: AMD Ryzen 9700X RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16GB (6000, CL36) GPU: XFX AMD Radeon 7900 XTX M.2 Boot SSD: Crucial 2TB M.2 SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Edit: Excluded the incorrect PC part list from the original link. Updated January 31, 2025 by SHORTY-NI

Did everyone check the BIOS update? The B650's current BIOS might not fully back up the Ryzen 9000.

From what I understand, he updated the BIOS during initial PC setup. I’ll remind him to verify that step. Regarding the CPU not being seated properly, it could affect performance or cause issues—make sure it’s properly installed. Let me know if you need more details.

It's often a chance scenario. Typically there isn't enough space in the socket for a faulty mount, yet when fitting the cooler it's easy to apply uneven pressure and lead to CPU movement. It's difficult to confirm if this has ever occurred, but reseating the CPU usually resolves the issue.

Reinstall the CPU. Inspect for misaligned pins.

He confirmed the bios was refreshed and the problem remains. I instructed him to reinsert his CPU and RAM, and to test one RAM module at a time to rule out compatibility issues. I'll let you know once he completes these steps.

I've instructed him to proceed with that task next. He should focus on working at the ATM until he's available. I've also advised him to test individual RAM modules. When installing his AIO, ensure the corners align properly and avoid over-tightening at once. Appreciate your response.

P.S. For the chip repositioning, using a spread technique instead of a pea method would be better. Spread it like jam to avoid air pockets. Regarding the recent reseat, I noticed a 5c variation on load.
