I worked with thermal paste and fan maintenance on my HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx. I thought a shutdown was due to overheating, but it turned out another problem exists. The CPU behaves oddly—jumps up and down rapidly—but under load (like running games), it reaches 1000MHz while its boost is 4000MHz and base speed is 2400MHz. The log file is from 2020-07-15 16:42:14.mkv.

I used Intel XTU and just replaced the blown-out fans, cleaned everything, and the CPU is now running at about 100°F to 115°F.

This might be due to you opening the case and taking out the heatsink and fans to clean them.
