Hi, I have a problem with my i7 9700k (full specs below). I can set it to overclock to 5Ghz on all cores and it's running, but once there is an actual load on it, all clocks fall down to 4,2Ghz flat. I've looked at HWinfo and it's reaching 70C max on some of the cores (not all), which I don't believe should be a cause for thermal throtteling yet, right? Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe I've not enabled some limiter or something? Please help if you can community. ^^ CPU: i7 9700k MB: Gigabyte Z370P 3D RAM: 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz G.Skill GPU: RTX 3070 Gigabyte PS: SPC Supremo FM2 750W (80+ gold)

Check the VRM temperatures and verify if all power-saving features in BIOS are turned off. Likely the issue is overheating from a subpar 4-phase VCore paired with an 8-core CPU, leading to throttling. If that doesn’t apply, the speed control and C-state settings might be malfunctioning. Also, it seems there might be a typo—your CPU model is probably the 9700K.

What processor is this? Based on the chipset, it could be a Coffee Lake 8 or 9th generation. Since you have no power restrictions, you might want to raise the current limit. The monitoring page should display any throttling reasons, or you could use tools like hwinfo to check the system status.

I've confirmed VRM operates at its maximum 63°C, leaving room to go. However, the Current/EDP cap is being reached. I'll check the BIOS for any enabled restrictions.

Checked the BIOS, but SpeedStep isn't listed. Speed Shift is set to Auto. I'm sharing a photo below. Should I turn any of these on or off? Package Power Limit1 shows TDP set to Auto, 95W is likely too high. IMG20230105134242.jpg

Confirmed the previous adjustment. You wish to turn off Speed Shift, Enhanced Halt(C1E), and any configurations referencing C states, EIST, and down bin. You aim to push power limits, extend power limit time, and increase core current limits.

I believe I've turned off all the suggestions you mentioned. Here are the BIOS settings you shared. With those adjustments, I'm maintaining 4,2GHz across all cores and consuming around 90-93W. 127 is the highest value I can set for those timings. Appreciate your help!
