I observed my CPU reaching temperatures above 90°C during COD Warzone. My system has an i5 8600K with turbo boost at 4.4 GHz and a master hyper 212 cooler. This is the first time I've pushed the CPU to its limit, which might explain the change in behavior. I built my PC a few years ago without overheating issues even under heavy load. I cleaned the cooler with compressed air and reapplied thermal paste, but it didn’t help. During testing with Prime95, temperatures climbed into the 90s for a short while, then dropped to around 88 after a few minutes. If I stop the test, temps fall by about 60 degrees in 5-10 seconds, then settle to about 55 at idle. The front panel was off during these tests. Should I replace the cooler or is there another solution?
I have a bottom intake and front intake fans. For exhausts, I use a back and a top. The room temperature is 76 degrees. Airflow isn't blocked much because I'm in a big room with the side panel off and facing forward.
Have you made any changes recently? Background tasks might be consuming system resources. Look at your RAM usage—are you limiting it or is it nearly full? It’s likely the CPU isn’t keeping up. You could boost graphics settings to force the GPU to work more, which may reduce CPU temperature by easing its load.
I've done my best to try and see if I've done anything different recently but haven't come up with anything. I have noticed a little bit of strange behaivor on my ram though. I have 32gb rgb trident ram in 4 sticks. I got two different 8 gb kits at two different points in time. My pc seems to like to hover right below using 16gb, at around 15.5-15.8 for a while befor it will be willing to go and use 16gb. I'm not sure if that is an indicator of anything though. As for my graphics settings, I have them set to max and my gpu usage is usually 90-98%. I would prefer when doing cpu intensive tasks, that my cpu did not hit super high temperatures and thermal throttle.
If the issue is limited to this app, it could be a software glitch. You might want to run a stress test on your GPU and CPU for a short period. If the behavior remains consistent, it’s likely load-related; otherwise, it may point to a software problem. Consider using only the two identical RAM sticks you have and replacing the extra ones. With 32GB it’s probably not necessary to exceed 16GB usage, as the game will manage asset loading and aim to cut down delays and boost performance.
