cpu overclocking help
I just finished assembling my initial gaming setup and am looking to boost my AMD FX-4100 quad-core chip from 3.80 to 4 or above. I’m new to overclocking and need some advice. P.S. The CPU uses an air cooler.
This model number is definitely not suitable for overclocking, since the board lacks sufficient heatsinks on the VRMs.
What is the model of your motherboard?
Which CPU cooler do you have installed?
I’m hoping these components aren’t brand new, because if they were, your gaming rig would be nearly seven years old. That CPU was first released in 2011 and is both very outdated and underperforming even when new. Not ideal for a gaming setup.
What graphics card are you using with that CPU?

Could you share your motherboard model and CPU cooler model? I’m concerned these might be older components, as the CPU from 2011 is quite outdated and underperforming now. Also, it seems this gaming rig isn’t up to the task. What graphics card are you using with that CPU?
That model number is definitely the one, hehe.
I wouldn't suggest pushing the clock beyond it on that board at all, since it doesn't handle overclocking well because there aren't enough heatsinks for the VRMs.
If you're thinking about boosting performance, it's better to opt for another board.
Make sure when searching for a motherboard in this list, you check for chipsets 990fx, 990 or 970. For instance, an Extreme6 won't work with an FX processor—so look for the 990/990fx Extreme6 instead.
Yeah, we had to be careful with the budget and used the Hyper TX3 fan bracket version for the cooler.
