CPU overclock resets upon launching specific games
I increased my Ryzen 5 3600 to a stable speed of 4.25 GHz. Cinebench r20 and other stress tests worked without issues, with temperatures staying around 65°C during testing and normal under load. Gameplay also performed well. Recently, I started using HWiNFO64 in the background. I observed that my overclock would reset to its default settings of 3.6GHz and 4.2GHz boost whenever certain games were launched, such as Cod Warzone, Valorant, and AC Odyssey. Once the game started, the overclocking would reset immediately. The default settings remained until I restarted or shut down the computer. After rebooting, the overclock returned to 4.25GHz, but it would reset again when those specific games were opened. Other games like FIFA, Sekiro, and Minecraft did not trigger this behavior. This situation is quite unusual. I haven’t found any discussions online about this problem. Any advice would be appreciated if you’ve seen similar issues.
Not a fan of Dragon Center. It does some unusual things. Likely the reason it restarts the BIOS is because DC artificially increases the settings initially, like an all-core OC setting at its own default PBO levels, which are much higher than what AMD suggests for normal settings. Resetting the BIOS settings undoes that artificial increase, preventing unreal CPU temperatures. Just remove Dragon Center, you'll be more satisfied overall.
It appears the MSI Dragon Center software was responsible, particularly the gaming mode. The listed games were intended for optimization with gaming mode active. However, for some reason, gaming mode would reset the overclocking back to its default setting.
