CPU operates at a higher temperature during idle time following a BIOS reset
Hey there! I set up a new SSD but ran into some issues with Windows—had to reset the BIOS and reinstall Windows 11. Everything seems normal now. I was checking temperatures and voltages to confirm everything was stable, but things jumped up to 50°C and spiked to 60°C when idle. That’s unusual since it was usually between 30-40°C before resetting. I have a Ryzen 3600, a Master CPU cooler, an NXT H510 case, and a Gigabyte X570 gaming GPU. I ran a stress test (95%) and hit 85°C. I’m wondering if the wrong chipset drivers or another problem caused this. Any advice would be super helpful! Thanks!
Verify your fan settings. If they were running at higher speeds while off before you restarted, that likely accounts for the issue.
If you had fine-tuned your fan curve prior to the update and it reset back to the standard setting, it might lead to sudden temperature shifts. A BIOS upgrade usually enhances performance, which often brings more heat as a result. It would have been wise to verify system specifications and sensor readings using the HWinfo64 interface. You may have a backup of your machine’s performance data that you can review to confirm the actual changes made by the BIOS. Also, ensure your motherboard BIOS version matches the hardware requirements. I also use a Gigabyte X570 but have a revision 1.2; my board has revision 1 plus 1.2, and there are newer versions for X570 boards where AMD adjusted their Agesa. The updated chipset no longer needed the small fan. Beyond these checks, you could try saving your current BIOS configuration in the BIOS menu, renaming it, and then applying default settings to compare temperatures. Last time I changed my BIOS, it preserved previous fan curve data, so I’m assuming it was retained.
