Specs: AMD Ryzen 5 3550H paired with Radeon Vega Mobile Graphics at 2.10 GHz base clock, 16 GB RAM (13.9 GB usable), HP Pavilion Gaming model 15-ec0013dx (pre-install). After connecting, I've faced this problem for three months. I've tried everything—swapped battery, upgraded RAM, ran diagnostics for three months without success. I'm not very tech-savvy, but I've done everything possible. Even changed charger and adapter, nothing helped. I checked the laptop interior; no major issues found. It's been running for a year and still this. Sorry for the messy formatting, I'm new here because this has been such a frustrating experience. Please help—I'm really stuck.
Have you performed a complete reinstall? If yes, it seems to be faulty—consider submitting an RMA right away.
Oof 1.2V 800MHz and 0.8V 2.3GHz – attempt to reboot BIOS, set up new Windows and chipset drivers here: https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/amd_chip...13.408.exe and Vega drivers at https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/radeon-s...t-dec8.exe. Standard chipset drivers aren’t performing as hoped.
I've tried factory resets and a fresh Windows install from USB, but that wasn't enough. The processor power state remains at its default setting—100% only when powered on and plugged in. Resetting the BIOS didn't help. Updated January 13, 2021 by oskar driplewanger
Feeling really puzzled by my task manager. One GPU is active while the main NVIDIA one seems inactive, I’m not sure if it’s connected or just another weird thing happening. Plus, AMD and Task Manager are interpreting things differently.
It's typical when the laptop is off, the high-power NVIDIA GPU activates only when required.
I encountered this problem on my HP Omen 15 with a Ryzen 5 4600H and an 1660 Ti. After trying everything, it now runs fine unless the NVIDIA GPU activates. I ran a stress test while plugged in and it worked smoothly, using about 20 watts. Then I used FurMark to check the GPU performance and found it drawing 30-40 watts, while the CPU returned to 400MHz with power use dropping to 2-3 watts. I suspect there might be an issue with power delivery or some throttling happening. The CPU and GPU stay well below 70°C.
Are you using the original power supply or a third-party one? I noticed the laptop was running slowly with the wrong voltage from the original supply, but it worked fine when I switched to a different power source.
