Hey everyone, curious if anyone has tips for fitting more RAM into a mid-range MSI Z-390-A PRO motherboard. I bought it and faced some issues—first unit refused to work, so I swapped it in the same day. The second one is now working but causing a different problem than the first. The Ez debug LED indicates it isn’t recognizing the CPU, and I’ve tried a bare-bones setup too. I’ve reused everything twice, even replacing the CPU completely. No one else has had this before? Any advice or suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help!
z390 is an 8th/9th generation Intel CPU. The 9900K requires a BIOS update for the board; otherwise, it won’t function until you apply a BIOS version 9900K or lower. I’m using an ASRock Z390 board, but I’m not sure if it needs the same update as MSI systems. Check the BIOS update website for more details.
Which CPU are you running? The 6000 and 7000 lines don’t work with Z370 and Z390, while the 8000 and 9000 lines do. The i9-9900K requires a BIOS upgrade.

My instinct is this isn't the 9900KS with the stock cooler. The OP should clarify that compatibility depends on the CPU model starting with an 8 or 9, such as i5 8500 or i7 9700.
It's wise to verify compatibility before making a purchase. When needing assistance, include all relevant technical information like motherboard and processor models. Generally, motherboards can match the right socket for a processor, but they might not work with certain models in different processor generations. Updating the motherboard's software could resolve this issue, unless a fix isn't available.
