You're looking for a CPU that pairs well with your new 1080 GPU while keeping performance smooth. Since you're already using an i5-6500 and GPU usage stays under 50%, aim for a processor in the same socket family for stability. Consider models from Intel's 12th or 13th Gen lines, or similar socket compatibility, to ensure good thermal and power delivery.

You're already at it—nothing else seems useful. A 6700K won't deliver much and will be more expensive than beneficial. Plan to save for a better platform if you truly need real improvements.

With a budget in hand, you can switch between platforms such as AM5 and LGA 1700 to achieve full GPU usage. A Ryzen 5 7600 or i5 12400F works well. You might also consider AM4 for its affordability, allowing options like the Ryzen 5 5600X or Ryzen 7 5700X3D.

With a limited budget and no room for growth, an AM5 using the 7600 route makes more sense for a new platform build. Most boards can handle up to 9800X3D without running into thermal problems, and moving to 5700X3D will require significant effort from sourcing components.

For a 12400F, choose a GPU with strong performance and good efficiency to avoid major bottlenecks.

Similar to the 5600 with about 4070Ti performance at 1440p. For 1080p, aim for around 4070 or 4060Ti, honestly. A better fit for the 7000 series AMD is the 14th gen Intel, not the 12th gen.

what board? if its a z board or theres cheap z170 available you can bclk oc it to 4.6-4.8ghz and thatll give you a decent performance bump otherwise assuming you are budget constrained new b450 are around the 50$ mark (used at closer to 40 and thats for midranger atx boards) and used 3600 are around the 50$ mark with 5600(x) ~70-80$ and 3100/3300x/3500(x) closer to 30$ with a larger budget theres 8400f around the 75-85$ mark on aliexpress, b850m pro-a around the 130$ mark or if available b650m hdv can be in the low 100$ depending on region
