CPU is overheating ?
Hello everyone
I own an MSI GF63 Thin Laptop and I’m aware that this model tends to overheat. After applying the new thermal paste, it began overheating even when idle, sometimes reaching temperatures of 75-80 °C. I’m curious about the best places to apply the thermal paste—there are two areas marked on the side, one smaller and one larger. Some sources suggest using pads only for VRAM, but I didn’t find any pads when I bought it new. I left the smaller pad unused, but it still overheated. Could anyone give some advice or clarification?

I adjusted the thermal paste as usual with every laptop, but mine appears slightly different, as shown in the picture above. When I first changed, I used both large and small ones, and the temperature was high. I only used the larger one and left the smaller one without a pad or paste, which feels a bit better now. I asked for advice and it suggested checking for VRAM and leaving it alone.
So, you didn't follow a manual. Laptops have both paste and pads; it's crucial to swap each type during replacement, especially not to reuse pads.
It seems like you overlooked something. If you take out the heatsink, can you notice the shape of the previous one on the underside?
You should paste both of those chips, I would think. If that is still your question.
Yeah, I tried both methods. I shared it a week back, but now I'm using a laptop without pasting it, and honestly, it feels better than before. That’s confusing for me.
Did you notice significant expulsion of material after applying the new thermal compound? Was the heatsink securely fastened during reinstallation?
