Searching online often leads to the belief that Intel makes it impossible, but I understand you're considering getting a Ryzen 3500U and installing it in a desktop PC to cut costs.

It isn't feasible to fit it on a desktop board. If you're looking for something standard, micro ATX, or ITX with a 3500u soldered onto it, placing it inside a desktop case works. Remember the 3500u is Zen+ not Zen 2—it's a modest processor. Most desktop boards also lack PCIe slots, and those that do usually support only x4, which isn't sufficient for most GPUs to run properly.

The Ryzen 5 3500U is a chip built into the device, not a separate part that can be taken out easily.

It's unlikely you'll find a typical laptop without special features. Most unless they're top-tier workstations or gaming machines, the CPUs stay built into the motherboard and can't be removed. The 3500u is a permanently soldered chip, making it impossible to take out. There aren't standard Ryzen laptops using desktop processors either; only high-end models exist. Some premium Intel gaming or workstation laptops do use them, but they're very costly. Essentially, you'd be purchasing a regular desktop CPU.
