I faced performance limitations while running demanding CPU games like Cities: Skylines. I added a fan inside my PC using a Molex cable, which helped improve cooling. After restarting, I noticed throttling at idle around 1 GHz. Checking CoreTemp showed temperatures near 100°C, and all fans were active. Even after removing the new fan, BIOS indicated rapid temperature spikes to 94°C and maintained them. Normally, under load it would drop to about 2.9 when it should be 3.5. This i5-4690K with stock cooler performed well before installation. What might have caused this situation?

You might have accidentally shifted the cooler out. It’s best to reapply it and install a proper one. Alternatively, consider upgrading to a reliable cooler specifically designed for your CPU—even the top Intel stock cooler may struggle with a high-end i5 on its best day.

Are you experiencing issues with the temperature sensor? Could it be the one connected to the motherboard or CPU that's providing these readings?

In the BIOS, the CPU reads 94 and the motherboard reads 31.

Looking for effective coolers for an ITX setup with a PSU directly above the CPU.

I need to understand the available space before choosing the cooler. Even a tiny difference can affect whether it fits properly.
