CPU frequency fluctuating following mainboard change
Yesterday I completed my setup using the i5 10400 and the ASRock Z490 Extreme4. Recently I observed the CPU clock speed increasing from 0.8Ghz to 3.9 or 4Ghz. I think the issue might be related to the Base Frequency Boost that the motherboard handles automatically, but I’m unable to find a clear solution.
If you don’t want your CPU to drop to 800 MHz under light use, choose the High Performance power plan. Your system is likely running the Balanced plan right now. I’ve turned on C states and have kept it at 5000 MHz continuously. Performance and temperature remain excellent as long as C states are active.
