I just got some new components for my PC and things aren’t working as expected. My motherboard is an MSI MPG Z390 and I have an Intel i7 9700K processor. After setting everything up, when I try to turn it on, the CPU diagnostic light on the board turns red, indicating a problem with the processor. I’ve tried several things: 1. Verified the CPU was securely seated and checked for any pin damage or misalignment. 2. Confirmed the CPU power cables were firmly connected. 3. Reinstalled the CPU fan. 4. Ensured the RAM was properly installed in its slot. This is my second build, so I’m unsure what might be causing the issue. It’s really frustrating because it cost a lot and the machine only powers on briefly before shutting down. Could you suggest anything that might help? Also, my PSU is 430 watts—could that be the problem? The system only stays on for about half a second before cutting off, which seems to suggest the power supply might not be handling the build properly.

Have you attempted to run without a graphics card to check if the system starts by reducing load on the power supply? The sound you’re hearing seems quite poor. Providing your complete computer details can assist in identifying the problem.

I did and the same thing happened, although I don't think the psu is the issue since I looked up my build and it said that i should be okay considering how many watts it is. Here is my build: CPU: Intel i7 9700k GPU: 750ti (upgrading soon) RAM: 1x16gb ddr4 viper Motherboard: Msi mpg z390 gaming plus PSU: thermal take 430w Case: NZXT H500 Hard Drive: Seagate barracuda 500gb

This exact model can guide whether you need to use the PSU or not, especially with high-power graphics cards. Have you tested the system outside the case first to check for basic functionality? If it still doesn’t work, consider swapping boards and see if that improves things. My reasoning suggests the power supply might be insufficient even if the second board remains unresponsive. Also, verify if the CPU retention bracket screws are tight enough—insufficient pressure could prevent proper pin contact.

I tried several troubleshooting steps before seeking help. Later, I reached out to the geek squad for a review. They found both my processor and motherboard were faulty. Fortunately, they’ll cover the replacement costs and install it for me. It seems I was unlucky with the parts I received.

It seems there was a mix-up with the components. Both the CPU and motherboard failed, which is unusual since CPUs are generally durable. It’s possible the motherboard was faulty first, causing excessive voltage to reach the CPU and leading to internal damage.
