For a top-notch idle performance, choosing AMD might not be ideal, though Intel could handle it better in that area. Still, you get a clear picture of what gaming and pressure would feel like with either option.
He’s cooling down nicely. I’m using the 5900X at 245/165/190 and notice 5GHz+ across all cores. The voltage isn’t too low, you’re tweaking the voltage curve. CO forces the CPU to work harder, but you’ll need to fine-tune the power limits for optimal performance. This model idles in the 20s, just like my 58X3D and 5600X.
For 4500MHz operation aim for around 1.2v. Best of luck with 1.1v.
Default voltage is 1.44V, offset of -0.1 keeps it at 1.34V, and the PC doesn't even start the OS. PBO2 lets you run higher clock speeds at the same temperature without saving power. I've noticed it can cut CPU power use by around 30%, only reducing performance by 2-3%. Now the CPU draws about 130W even with undervolt settings. I can only enable a negative curve up to 15 above boot time, but most games crash when I do that. For the 5900X, setting a max of 30 negatives usually works without issues, but this model can handle only half that.
I handled it and there are no more than 30 crashes per game over 15, and nobody clarifies reducing power use with PBO2.
