CPU cooling under low voltage vs GPU warmth comparison
Hello everyone, I own a MSI GL Series GL75 9SFK-1228CA. I've been trying out undervolting the CPU and adjusting turbo limits. The machine runs an i7 9750h, currently all six cores are at 3.90GHz at -150mV. It stays steady at 3.9GHz across the board and doesn’t throttle under load, according to aida64 during a stability test. The peak temperature stays around 92°C, with a slight dip to 95°C where throttling occurs. If I lower the clock speed to 3.6GHz per core, it gives more thermal flexibility for the GPU to stay in turbo mode. Now I’m wondering, as a gamer, which option offers the bigger advantage? Option one: a CPU at 3.6GHz running at 80°C, letting the GPU max turbo with extra cooling space. Option two: a CPU at 3.9GHz at 92°C, limiting GPU turbo time because of thermal constraints or the laptop I’m planning to test. I haven’t had much time lately to fine-tune due to long work shifts.
