Hi, your ACER Predator Orion 5000 PO5-600 is experiencing issues after upgrading the SSD and reinstalling Windows. Games on Steam are causing CPU spikes, monitor blackouts, and lag. The SSD firmware was updated via Samsung Magician, but the problem persists. Could there be another factor at play? Please share more details if you'd like further help. Thanks!

Downloading from Steam demands significant CPU resources while the game is installed simultaneously. I’m unsure about your original SSD speed, but now the installation runs extremely quickly and consumes even more processing power. I’m not surprised to see your Intel 9700 peak at full capacity during a game download, especially given the current speeds. Upgrading my M.2 drive and internet speed led to a noticeable boost in CPU usage during Steam installations. Even with slower connections, my Intel 6600k was previously a limiting factor. Everything seems to be functioning correctly—enjoy your new fast SSD!

your cpu needs to handle a lot of writing to disk when internet is stable and steam is installing the game. If your drive speed was slow before, it might be the cpu that’s slowing things down, not just the disk. The i7-9700 isn’t the latest model, so it could be the issue was resolved once you finished installing a game on steam. You might try reducing your download speed to keep things running smoothly while the game loads in the background.

The previous SSD performed just fine at 500 GB, but I upgraded to a 2 TB model for faster game downloads. Even with the original SSD maintaining its speed, the new drive kept everything smooth during everyday tasks.

The disk space metrics (highlighted in green on Steam) matched the SN520. The Samsung 990 Evo Plus performs much better than the Western Digital SN520.

Yes, everything returns to normal except when I download games from general sources like Steam. During those times, the system becomes laggy. I understand limiting download speed, but I’m looking for another way to fix it.

Aim for a better CPU upgrade, using all cores simultaneously. Download, unpack, and install at once. Run updates while the PC is idle—probably via Steam’s auto-update feature. Otherwise, slow down the download speed to avoid extra costs. My setup uses a newer system; with a 1000Mbps connection and AMD 7900x, the download consumes about 30-40% of CPU capacity.

Would purchasing an M2 SSD PCle 3.0 be more advantageous than selling the current one, especially due to its larger memory capacity?

Reduce the download rate slightly until you notice your CPU isn’t stuck at 100%. It should continue downloading more quickly than with your SN520.

your new storage offers about three times faster writing speed—it's a solid drive, but it isn't the issue. steam is consuming system resources to accelerate the update process.
